Flea Market Finds Pour La Semaine Trente-Huit

It's time for another week of

 FLEA....MARKET....FINDS!

I only have a few things to share as I've been running around like crazy trying to get my Christmas act together.....Hasn't happened yet! *winks*

Are all of you ready for Christmas? Or did you procrastinate like I did?
Next year (God willing) I'm going to start a month in advance like the smart folks!

So I haven't had much time for antiquing but I did manage to sneak in one trip to the Goodwill and one to a local antique mall where I found my first (and favorite) find.....
This crazy quilt/patchwork robe. I picked it up and put it down a couple of times not really knowing what it was and yet intrigued by it......So I studied it a little more closely and noticed that it was entirely sewn by hand and had two banners with the names of ships along the front. Well I love a little mystery (Don't you?) so home with me it went.
I tried to find out more, and did manage to find that both ships were war ships existing at the same time in the 1920's so I'd guess this robe was from around that time period. Must have belonged to the wife of a navy man. This was the 1920's -30's version of being green. No scraps were wasted!

I wonder if groups of ladies gathered together with all their scrap fabric and quilted while talking about their men still at sea?
Chock-a-block full of different fabrics.
The ships...
I love the old florals. The silks aren't faring so well and a few of them are tattered.
From the back
And another feature that really makes this robe interesting is that it's completely reversible!
The other side has the most luscious tomato red silk satin! Having been protected from the light it's in amazingly good condition.

I had a hard time finding many of these pieces to get an idea of value?
I did find this robe/coat from 1914 housed in a museum in Norway. But no price attached alas.

And this coat is from the 1930's.

That was pretty much it, leading me to believe that these pieces must be a little uncommon. Whatever the case I really enjoyed the learning process with this one, completely outside my areas of expertise....If indeed I even have any *winks*
OK moving on to what turned out to be my industrial style finds... the large rusty suitcase/toolbox was a freebie roadside (full of rusty crusty tools) as well as the galvanized case. The tool box also had a few of the old folding rulers. and the 1920's light fixture was $25 at the Goodwill. As well as the metal cloche with butterflies for 99 cents.

This grate cover was $22 at the antique mall. I really love it, but have no idea what I'm going to do with it.
Do you think this could be a milk case? I have no idea what this was actually used for.
Interior.
If you have any idea I'd love to hear! *winks*
One of the freebie folding rulers.
This 1950's ice bucket with lucite handle was $3.50 at the Goodwill.
This brush featuring a ship was also in the large rusty case so FREE!....My favorite price! *winks* Hmmmm another naval-ish find! It does seem to go like that from week to week, a theme seems to appear.
And lastly this old rattan magazine holder ($5) that's as rough as can be, but I really liked the paintings of flowers on each side.
Tattered roses.
That's all for this week.
Not some of my best I admit....But thanks for stopping by anyway!
I hope you'll leave me a comment.
I LOVE to hear from you!
Vanna

FAA my dear. Love the patchwork attire. The grate would look great hanging, or with a candle behind it. That painted rattan mag holder is devine.

Yay, Vanna! I wait in the wings for your Flea Market Find posts! My favorite this week is the beautiful little ship handled brush and it's my favorite price, too! Lovely 1930's crazy quilted robe! Well, the lamp fixture from the Goodwill and the Grate are amazing, too! Hugs, Janice

I love your crazy quilt robe, so glad you didn't leave it behind!

Your roadside finds are great. The grate can be a wall hanging in and of itself, or a jewelry organizer. Th meal box might be a milk box. And we had an ice bucket like that when I was growing up!

Hi Vanna!
Love that grate, the design is gorgeous. I agree it can stand (hang) all by itself. And the light fixture??? You didn't mention it! It too is fabulous, as are all your finds. Hope you can link up this week.
Hugs,
Patti

The robe is wonderful and interesting. I am with the crowd and like the grate. The light fixture is swell too and really they do not make them like that any more.

I think the patch work robe is pitiful don't you? some little lady made that after her husbands belonging were sent home to her or she was just so poor she made it out of many colors whatever I like it and you was smart to get it , sort of like crazy quilting

my favorite item is the ship brush then the grate

like I said you always find great things I will be so glad when I can get back on the shopping trail. When I come out to visit you were going to that goodwill? right LOL

Merry Christmas

xoxo Janice

You find the best things! I love the patchwork robe. Amazing it has survived as well as it has. The free finds are great too. I love the brush with the ship handle, really cool.

Sorry I missed the last couple of weeks, I've been working like a mad woman. But I think my boss is finally starting to take it easy for holidays!

Thanks for sharing your finds!

Hope you can find more information on the robe. The grate could be used as a wall hanging. The GW's around here don't have any treasures like those.
Hope you are enjoying the holidays.

Good Evening, Dear Vanna!!
So wonderful to "see" you chez moi...I just love your sweet and witty comments. :))
These are lovely and unique treasures. I agree with many re: the grate..it is beautiful, and could just be on a wall as art.
Wonderful finds, dear friend...and yes, I am procrastinating. It rained today!! (Minnesota)..I need some snow to get in the holiday mood...soon! :))
I wish you and your dear family many beautiful blessings this Christmas and in the New Year!!

If your grate is anything like mine it is way too heavy to hang on any wall (ever). :) Please let me know what you end up doing with yours. I used mine on my countertop as a trivet until we moved to a tiny house, and now I've no room for it that way. Thanks for the great blog!

I love how nothing was wasted with the patchwork pieces. I am so not ready for Christmas I have my shopping finally done but that is it. Hopefully I'll have time to start decorating this weekend so it gets me in the holiday spirit. What do you think that horsehair brush was used for? I'm loving it for some reason.

Good Lord Vanna... your Goodwill Stores have AHMAZING finds! That Robe is certainly a fabulous piece of History... the Light Fixture, a Goodwill Hunting Score is the stuff of dreams! {Well mine anyway} And your curbside finds... I'd be trawling neighborhoods constantly if they set stuff to the curb around here that were so interesting! The only curbside scores I find in abundance are Architectural Salvage from Old Homes because around these parts they don't place much value on stuff like that... their loss is my gain! *Winks* It just grieves me sometime to think how much I didn't rescue went to a landfill instead though. *Le Sigh* I'd much rather see it all offered for Sale at a Swap Meet or donated to a Salvage Company, you know.

Thanks for stopping by... I knew you'd adore those Bedside Tables... I did too, even though they were very European Glam I thought they also had a touch of the Boheme' to match my Style. Smiled at the 80% off is practically free comment, that's exactly what I told The Man! We definitely are Twins separated at birth! Now... get busy with Christmas!!! *LOL*

ms. vann, you have been at it again. Another good job of great finds. I think the patchwork reminds me of the coat of many colors my Mother made for me, a Dolly song, also taken from the Bible. I love crazy quilts and thank a robe is a great ideal. I used to buy the old worn quilts and make Christmas stockings and wreaths from them. They are real works of art. I hope you get Christmas going soon and Come by when you can. Richard from my old Historic House.

The robes are mind boggling. Makes me think of Joseph's coat of many colors from the Bible.

Fascinating dress! If only it came with the story for each piece of fabric, it would then be priceless. You found some really neat free things too! I guess you can't find them unless you look, so keep on shopping girl!
