Howdy y'all!
Sorry I missed a week.....Blond that I am I didn't realize my posting day would land on Thanksgiving so I skipped one and had myself a mini blog vaca *winks* I hope you all had a wonderful holiday.....And doesn't it feel like Christmas is only 10 minutes from now? Did any of you hit the black friday sales?
Anyhoo my blog post today is about my postage stamp sized powder room. I'd love to hear opinions from all of you (my fabulous bloggy friends) on what you think I can do to improve it? *winks* As mentioned it's very small, has no window, so no natural light...hence my less then stellar pictures (sorry!)
This room is right off the garage and across from my laundry room so it's very utilitarian.
Awhile back I found this large over mantel mirror at a local antique store for $100 and wasn't quite sure what to do with it? I got a a sudden brainstorm and ended up putting it in here to replace a very blah maple framed oval mirror, and I'm wondering, do you think I should paint it white?
I'm also thinking about adding some wainscoting? The room already has moulding rail, so should it be kept to that height? Or maybe a little higher? So many questions for such a tiny room *winks*
This is what the mirror looked like before.
My new (old) mirror nearly goes from one wall to the other in this small space.
The old wood medicine cabinet below was a $10 find at a garage sale. The vintage game table is one of a set of two purchased on craigslist for $25.
Here you can really see its size.
This lovely clock case was a $12.99 find at a thrift store. The clock parts are almost all gone but I don't care *winks* The floral prints are also from a garage sale.
Isn't it sweet?
I LOVE the romantic maidens! I think the attached antique tassels must've come off an old sofa? I paid $5 for the two of them
This sweet statue of a girl was a $10 craigslist find.
I found this frame at our town garage sale for $3. And the plaque of lovers was a find on my shopping trip with my friend Joyce for $41.
Close up.
This Moreau spelter couple picking apples was a find at a local antique mall for $100.
And this set of cherub candleholders were a Christmas gift from a friend.
I think this small chandelier was one of my best finds from awhile back. It was $28.......
but it came to me originally looking like this *winks*
So what do you think? What should I change? Too busy? Please give me your opinions. I'd LOVE to hear from you!
And please come back for next week when I have some special flea market finds to share with you!

Hi Vanna!
I think your powder room looks lovely and your collected pieces make it so elegant --- like the rest of your home!
I think I would paint the mantel mirror/shelf with an off-white paint and then glaze or wax it.... but that's just me!
You have such great taste, I know whatever you do will be just perfect.
LOVE The light fixture!
xx
Alison
Hi Vanna!
We missed you over the holiday, but hope that you got to spend some quality family time.
I love the new piece, only you could find such a gorgeous piece at such a great price! I do think it would look even better in white and the little cabinet, too. But, they are fabulous pieces no matter which way you decide to go. Everything in there is such a treat for the eyes. It might be small on footage, but it's big on style! Love it all!
Hugs,
Patti
Hi Vanna! I love your wee powder room. That clock is so beautiful, the colors are super feminine and romantic. I think the dark wood pieces would look good in white, if you want to paint it I say don't hesitate. They'd look wonderful and fit right in the space.
Just adorable Vanna I love it! I don't think you can improve on this.
Hey Vanna!
Hope your Thanksgiving was great. I was starting to wonder about you!
Sweet powder room. I've never been one for taking a piece like that and painting it white, but...I think if it's going to stay there, white is the way to go with it...high gloss creamy white.
Are you coming down to Monticello for the Christmas show? Hope so!
~Joyce
Hello Vanna. Your mantel is beautiful, but the wood seems very heavy in that small powder room. It would still be beautiful painted, but it wouldn't overpower the space as much. I love all of your finds. I would pull back a little with the accessories, but that's just me. I think a neutral, simplified palette would make the space seem bigger.
Paint it white! Your old mirror is similar to what our powder room had. I changed that bad boy out too wouldn't you know! The rest of your incredible thrifty finds are all beautiful and elegant.
xoxo
Kathleen
I agree, all your finds are so beautiful - especially love the clock! I think I would paint the mirror white, too! Thanks for sharing your beautiful powder room!
Hugs, Janice
Vanna,
I personally enjoy the powder rooms visual appeal as is but if we were to treat this comment as a mere thought forum then what about red lacquer? And if memory serves me correctly the French elevated lacquered finishes to an art form once introduced from the orient. Just a little something to think about.

LOVE IT!!
Definitely not too busy for me!!
Everything is stunning and that mirror is to die for!!
I am posting my Christmas Home Tour over on my Chrsitmas blog, www.adebbie-dabblechristmas.blogpsot.com
Come visit if you get a chance...

I agree with most of the other commenters that you should paint the mirror and medicine cabinet. But, I'm not so sure it should be white. Wouldn't it then just blend into the current wall color? I'm with Gary (above). I'm not sure red will work for you, but I would paint the mirror a contrasting color. But, I would not necessarily paint the cabinet the same color, because it might look too "matchy".
Absolutely beautiful powder room. I'm joining my voice to the others and saying 'white'. xx
I so want to go shopping with you! You found such tremendous treasures. Your bathroom is absolutely beautiful. I wouldn't change a thing!
Candy
I love your little room! I agree with painting and also agree that white might blend into the walls. How about a nice soft grey wash with some white highlights? That shade would blend beautifully with the statuary you have already. And, although I love the rug, I'd try and find a softer colored rug for the floor since it seems to jump out at you in the picture. That gorgeous mirror should be the center stage. What great thrifting finds!
Vanna, I think wainscotting (sp?) would work there. That big wood mantle seems a bit dark and heavy in that small space but if you like it leave it lovey. I decorate with the items I love and care little about what others think. I love the craigslist statue. hugs♥O
Oh my gosh, I think it's wonderful great minds think a like.. Gloria You and myself posting about powder rooms. However, compared to the two of you mine is very Humpty Dumpty... oh boo... I really need to rethink quite a few things in mine now.. I have to be careful of what I put in there since it's in the shop. If I put personal items they want to buy them.. I do however need a chandy! What do you think it would truly dress it up.. I'm swooning big time over your game table.. realllllllyyyyy want it girl.. my heart is skipping beats over it.. Your powder room is gorgeous as is everything you do.... I'm off to do some changing... stay tuned for a new post in the "future"... I hope you had a super Thanksgiving.. I'm sure you're off finding more bargains, keep me mind and smile huge when you find those beauties!
hugs ~lynne~
I love this little bathroom, Vanna. It does not really look so little cause you decorated it so well. I like it just the way it is and hope it stays that way....Christine
Ms. Vanna, I would not paint the mirror if it was mine, but!!!! If you want to paint it, I would paint the walls above the chair-rail and mirror the same color as the look as one. Maybe pale, ale pink? There is wall paper that looks like wains coating, would be cheaper and easier. How about that antigliptic (spelling?) wallpaper- 3-d and paint it the same color, perhaps, pale pink as the wall and self above. Just some thoughts. Love the clock, don't care if it works. I think you missed my orphans Thanksgiving blog. You will love my friends home. No Black Friday for me, but, small business Sat. at my shop was pretty good. Love and Sissy kisses. Richard from My Old Historic House.
Vanna, I love your style so I think the bathroom is beautiful, but I think I would pain the mirror a creamy white and distress it a little....but I love it either way!
Lou Cinda
You really have an eye for beauty. I love your statues, and the clock. I would paint the mirror to lighten it up, and go with the wainscotting. That is what we did in our 2nd bathroom (it's small, too) and it looks great. Love your posts. You find some great things.
Oh girl I'm just smiling here from ear to ear..I love the mantle mirror and you know how I feel about painting real wood furniture..Your room is impeccable as your whole house is..
Now I have that rug (kitchen) that same medicine cabinet( guest bathroom) Clock ( bedroom) Lovers (Living room) we have so many of the same things..great minds and all *winks* Now I see Richard mentioned the bead board wall paper..I did use it last year in my laundry room and just love it and was easy peasy to do..It does look and feel like wood without sawing it ha ha!!
I love this room my dear friend..Love the beautiful Chandy..oh and I also have that sink in my master bathroom plus a pull chain toilet that is so loud the neighbors know when you use it ha ha!!
Thanks for coming by and I know that candy doll was the same as yours ha ha!! that's why I bought it girl to think of you..Love ya my Dearest friend..Hugs and love Gloria
Hi Vanna,
Your powder room is so beautiful and elegant. The only thing I would change is perhaps to paint the mirror mantel. Perhaps with a beautiful shade of white using chalk paint. I absolutely love that mirror. You did a fabulous job and given me great ideas for my postage stamp of guest bath. You have such fabulous taste my dear.
xoxoxo
Paula
Hi Sweet Vanna, I love your powder room, such soft pretty colors. Love the antiques and accessories. Maybe a different color for the walls would be an easy way to try a different look. Easy fix if you don't like it. Be sure to come back and show us the after when you're finished. Hope your enjoying your week Vanna........

The French Hutch
It might be a postage stamp size (aren't all powder rooms?) but it is packed to the rim with beauty and unique finds. Heyyyyy - that sounds like you too. *wink* You always impress me with your thrifting skills. You should write a book, my friend. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Blessings, Barb
Vanna, Your powder room may be small but you have packed a lot of "pretty" in there! I would paint the mantle mirror and add beadboard, or wallpaper that looks like beadboard. It would also be pretty with one of the large damask stencils on the walls. Thank for sharing your darling bat at the Open House Party.
Hugs,
Sherry
I would not paint it since your medicine cabinet isn't
Love the fancy smancy bathroom.
You come up with the best darn stuff girl. Love that game table
blogger is messed me up again and can't leave comments from my blog?
Curtains In My Tree
Vanna Dear!!
Bonjour to you, sweet friend!
Loved that you came for a "visit"..would love to offer you some sweet, lemony, strong Russian tea, my friend. And that bread you see on the samovar..these are called "bubliki", pronounced "boobleekee"..silly word, yes? ;)
They are water bagels, skinnier and harder that the bagels we are used to..shown traditionally strung on twine. Charmant, n'est-ce pas? Would love to see what you will do with your samovar!
As for this little jewel of a powder room..it is so SO pretty and romantic! As for painting the darker wood, perhaps a weathered grey? I'm looking at that grey and floral basket in the corner on the floor for a color inspiration, love it! The pieces are beautiful, but a lighter color may open up the space a bit..
You have such a talent for creating sumptuous surroundings!
xoxo,

Hi Vanna! The mirror is beautiful! It would look lovely painted white and I always love wainscotting :)
Jennelise
Hi Vanna! I love your Craig's List finds. The offerings in your neck of the woods are much better than ours. Regarding your powder room, I think it looks wonderful! If anything, perhaps painting the dark wood on the mirror might be nice.....
Hi Vanna...
Ohhh...your mantel mirror is fabulous, my friend! You know, the fit couldn't have been more perfect in that space! I think it was meant to be! It's a great piece! I do think that it would be pretty painted a creamy white and then distressed...just my two cents! Hehe! Girlfriend, you have sooo many great and beautiful pieces in this bath! My favorite...the apple picking couple statue! Ohhh...that is just breathtaking! And...I love your pretty frenchy clock too! You have done a marvelous job with the decor of this bath! Thank you for sharing it with us!
Well dear friend, I hope that you and honey had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Love ya,
Chari
Vanna, your powder room is stunning! This is just my humble opinion, but I wouldn't paint the mantle or medicine cabinet. It's not that I'm opposed to painting furniture cause goodness knows I've painted my share, but I love the way the wood looks with the softer colors in the room. I think if you painted them, they would just blend into everything else in the room. I like that right now they're sort of focal points in the room. Regardless of what you decide to do with them, your room is gorgeous either way. I wouldn't take away anything in there.
:))
Anytime you're in Minnesota..let me know!
xoxo,

Your powder room is lovely with so many wonderful accessories. I think the mantel work beautifully! To paint or not to paint, either way it's beautiful!
Thank you for linking to Potpourri Friday!
very nice things!!! :) i like the gambling table!
and statues! :)
ps: i got new giveaway ;)
Look, I don't mean to be too cynical, but it's a bloody room to have a crap in.
Get rid of all of the fancy stuff, and just leave a simple mirror, a beer dispenser and a magazine rack with gun, car, boat amd hunting publications.
IT'S NOT A POWDER ROOM!
When was the last time someone went in there to powder their nose?
Now I know blokes and females have differing views on this topic, but please, get real.
PS. Make sure there's plenty of toilet paper, air freshners and even wet wipes for those with delicate arses.
I think ur little jewel box is perfect just the way it is...I wouldnt paint the mirror white. I love the contrast, and its very reflective(no pun intended, lol) of all the other rooms in ur home. Its so YOU!...........OMG, i have a set of those apple picking couples too. I paid $60 for mine:) They are still under the bed, ive yet to put them anywhere in the house...maybe ile get them out soon..I know u want suggestions, so if i have to give one it would to add alittle color by maybe painting the lower portion(love the chair rail) of the wall in a pale pink(my fav color, lol).........or maybe papering the upper portion in a fancy victorion paper...........Bonnie
Too busy?? You're kidding, right? I was amazed that you were able to get all that in such a small space and it look so fabulous! The mantle piece might fit in a little better if it was painted, but I'd sure hate to do that. It's great as it is. And, it looks good in there as is.
Let me say that you better appreciate your "small" powder room. Sit the sink next to the commode and add a tub on the perpendicular wall and you have our hall bath. The one company uses. Our master bath is even smaller. Shower instead of a tub. And those are our only two. Sigh. 1950's ranch.
Vanna, it looks lovely and your postage stamp sized bathroom is not far off the size of my postage stamp bedroom. Enough room to lie in, what more can you want.
Hope you are well dear friend. I took a little vacation too, still blogged but mostly pics of my trip to Scotland last week. It rained, then it rained and again it rained. We had a month's worth in 24 hours! Aghhhhh!!!

I think it looks great the way it is. I wouldn't paint it. You have a remarkable talent for decorating.
Hi Vanna,
Thanks so much for sharing this lovely post at "What's It Wednesday".
Hope to see you this week, too. As we all know it's not a party without you!
Hugs,
Patti
Hi Vanna,
I love its gorgeous! not too much in there for me,if you were to paint the mirror and cabinet i would go for a grey green like the towel and background colour on your bin and age wax it after,it would pull in the greens in your pictures and that hot piece of pretty china on the toilet.
I also agree with Richard about the pale ale pink upper walls.
Love your games table very much and the rug.
xxx
Knock,knock...anyone home? I need to use the powder room! LOL! So beautiful..I think I would be in there more than not..it's too pretty..
Kindredly,
Shirley

I know that I am in the minority, painting everything white is the current trend...but, I like the mirror the way it is. I think the dark accent looks good in the room. And this certainly is a lovely room.

Sweet little bathroom. So many wonderful treasures. That 'harp' table is a vintage 'game' table?? To die for~ I love that thing!
The chair rail looks perfect just exactly where it is. And, I would NOT paint the mirror. That is a fabulous piece of antiqueness and I feel it has a more elegant look if you leave it in its natural dark wood. I love white and off whites and neutral tones together, but sometimes a natural dark piece like this adds a touch of class you just can't get in a can of white paint. Just sayin'. :)
