A BLOG GIVEAWAY!! And another Great Book.

I'm going to start with my BLOG GIVEAWAY!! Whoohoo!!

Here's how it works... I purchased this "THING" on craigslist. ($75) I should add this "Thing" is quite large measuring 33" wide x 22" and 12" tall.
I have no idea what it was (or should be) used for?
So your mission should you choose to accept it......Sorry for going all Mission Impossible on ya! I couldn't help myself *winks*.... is to come up with your best guess about how it could or should be used? So peeps give me some ideas because I need all of them I can get! Then just become one of my  friendly followers (If you aren't already *winks*) and leave me a comment. Come on don't be shy! Let your imagination go wild! The one with the best answer wins!

Here's a view of the inside.

And the winner will receive this antique Danish(?) pillowcase 21"x21" with embroidery initials. It translates to "sleep well" and has two small ties sewn inside for closure. But wait!....There's more!

Almost two years ago I was also doing a giveaway when my mom became very ill and I stopped blogging. So that prize will also be added into the mix!

Isn't it beautiful?
This darling little art nouveau jewel box will also be added to sweeten the prize. It's seen a little wear and tear in its long lifetime but this only enhances its charm.
Inside it contains a touch of mink to cushion some special treasure.

So please join my giveaway and start guessing!
I'll award the prize two weeks from today! Sunday Feb 13th. It could be a VERY good Valentines day! *winks*

OK and for another good book....if you haven't read it yet?
 "The Bed" By Alecia Beldegreen,
It's another one of my favorite go to's.
I have beds on the brain lately because I'm straining the little gray matter that I DO have to come up with a canopy idea for my master bedroom. I've actually been pondering this for some time and it needs to happen! The ceiling is sloped so a beautiful corona just won't work *sighs* So I'm open to ideas for that too. You can view my master bedroom HERE

Isn't this a luscious cover? A taste of things to come.... And the text is just as beautiful as the pictures....Lots and lots of em!

These are just some of the images. I couldn't share many of the best because they're two page spreads. Poor little scanner couldn't do it sorry.

I'll take that portrait please.

My cat would love this....But not as much as his mommy!

Italian beauty-liciousness!

And French of course!

This is soooo cool! It's all been done with a sharpie marker! Sorry about the crease, it was a two pager.

And some wonderful trompe l'oeil!

If I had this painted theatrical backdrop I'd remodel my whole living room around it!

Have you ever traveled by train like this? I don't think I'd ever fly if I could avoid it.

Absolutely gorgeous!

This lit a la polonaise is one of my favorite beds. One of these days I'll have me one!

Just look at those cherub sconces!

Or how about swathed in lace?

And more lace....

Do you think I could find one of these on craigslist? Probably not, but stranger things have happened!...Not to me...but maybe to you? *winks*

If you enjoyed these images you're going to love this book. And you can pick it up for only $4.59 (Shipping included) HERE A real steal for a large hardcover book.

Thanks for stopping by!   Vanna

Hey Vanna! Well if it was mine I would place a fluffy pillow in it and use it for a doggie bed. Wouldnt that be so cute! I alsoo think it would be a pretty flower pot holder.I dont know what it is but I really like it and I know that you will use it in a very cleaver and neat way! I cant wait to see what you do with it:)

Vanna is it the base to a victorian baby cradle...I would use it as a pet bed girl..for a small cat or dog..Hope your having a GREAT day my friend..Hugs and smiles Gloria

What another fabulous find friend! I was thinking doggie bed would be adorable too. It look like it would be a wonderful tray for the bath - I can see old decanters and such stored on it. Of course a beautiful vase of flowers has to be somewhere on the tray too.
It really is quite a puzzle as to what it originally was. I am thinking Debbie may be on to something -

Oh Vanna that is an interesting piece, I immediately thought of a bed for a pet, but I see someone else thought of the same idea.I think maybe a pretty mirror cut for the bottom and use it to hold a wonderful candleabra and it will glisten in the mirror. I can't wait to see what you come up with for your bed!!! You know I am already a follower and I am so glad to see you back in blogland!! hugs to you,Kathysue

Vanna, this is such a lovely giveaway and I certainly want to participate. Since I don't know what it was meant to be, I would make it into an ottoman. Make (or have made) a deep cushion that drops right in! It would be a great place to rest your feet after all that shopping!

Your bedroom is fabulous and I appreciate your love for "more is better".

Actually, I would love to go shopping with you! Seriously!!

Oh, and thanks for the tip on the book!

Oh such a pretty piece. I am pretty simple and have little imagination. I would use it as pedestal to showcase a fabulous statue or piece of pottery. Great book also. Thanks. Hugs, Marty

Kim said...

Well I was gonna say doggie bed too but I'm a little late for that bandwagon! LOL! so I'm gonna say a tufted footstool. And I knew Gloria would know what it was. She has a huge collection of amazing antiques!

I was gonna set a pet bed too but I say it needs to be a FOOTSTOOL! Cover it with a beautiful tapestry piece or floral needlepoint. Elegant piece. I really love what you are giving away. Please put my name in the hat.

Very interesting find! I think it would make a fantastic fancy dog bed or amazing footstool with some padding and gorgeous fabric!

I am going to guess that you have a tabernacle altar. I don't think it is part of a baptismal font because of the feet, which I would assume would sit on top of something solid.
It would look lovely in a bathroom on the vanity, fitted with a porcelain sink and a lovely antique faucet! Perhaps in your kitchen filled with an abundance of healthy fruit?
Well, you know you can have that backdrop made fairly inexpensively! It is quite lovely!
I have seen some lovely canopied beds that have been applied directly to a vaulted ceiling. I will try to find some images...a bit of old molding and fabric...tadaa!

Vanna, I am gona guess that it is a base for a flower pot or foot bath or something like that. You sure come up with some stuff on that Craigs List. They should use you for there promotional person, and do cammercials with your finds. Keep it up.

Labrocanteuse.blogspot.com said...

Hello Vanna,
I agree, probably a base for some flower pot..i'm thinking it would make a lovely base for a pets "over the top bed"..don't hate me for saying that- I love pets..dogs actually.
another book to look out for - thank you. o yes I have been able to order "Rooms" thank you, it's onit's way. xo Colette ~Afrique du Sud

I am voting it is a cat bed...for a very lucky spoiled cat! Too, I want the Italian bed, it has swirls!!! Please enter me Vanna, anything that you are giving away, I want(unless it involves a cat, don't want my husband to die from an allergic reaction, too much info, I'll stop now!)!!

Sorry Vanna but why did you buy that thing if you didn't know what it was? I'm guessing it's a cat bed since I know you have a house full of them!Love the book, thanks for the heads up!

Well Vanna, what about a very large statue like a cherub and live trailing vines wrapped around her feet. You could layer the piece with plastic stand the figurine in the center, fill black dirt all around the bottom of the statue and plant a couple of vines and make sure this piece is standing where it will get light from your windows.
Your bedroom is beautiful!
I'm a new follower too.

Love, love browsing at those book pages, Vanna! How about putting a big cloche on that wooden thing? And you can put a Santos or an antique religious item in it. I can't wait to see what you end up doing with it but I know you'll think of something really nice....Christine

O.K. Here's my suggestions:
1) Stack it with plates on one end of your buffet for your next party, or the star food attraction can be placed on a platter atop this "thing".
2) If your bathroom vanity or dressing table is large enough, put your pretty parfum bottles on it.
3) Use it on your bar or drinks table/cart for "spirits" in beautiful crystal decanters and/or for your barware/bar utensils.
4) Use it in the bathroom for extra towels folded on it or drop a pretty basket in it filled with extra rolls of toilet paper (hey, why not?). Or, the basket dropped into the "thing" can be filled with magazines and placed beside a comfortable chair.
And last, like some others have said it would be pretty with a beautiful cache pot filled with a "button" fern, english ivy, etc. or a statue of some kind.
Hope this helps!

I just went back and re-read your post... I thought the "thing" was the prize... silly me. I can't tell you how disappointed I was. LOL But the pillow is pretty too. I did not know that your Mom was sick and that was why you stopped blogging, so sorry. But I am happy to see you back, can't wait to watch your blog grow.

Okay Vanna Pie, I have been thinking about this here mystery piece...it looks pretty large, so I was thinking....which is dangerous....that you could use it as the base for a plant. Maybe a ficus tree or something like that that is tall.....

Lou Cinda :)

OMG! I did not realize that thing is that big. I just read the measurement. Make an ottoman and use it as a base, lol. What did they use it for before you bought it? I really like the cat bed, so cute. You should make a human size for your bed....Christine

Wow Vanna, this post is filled with beauty! I had to run over and order that book right away! What a bargain for all of that beauty. Thanks for tellin' us. I don't know what that wonderful thingy is that you bought, but I love it! I'd probably put it on the coffee table, and put remotes, and other misc. junk in it. But I love the idea of a footstool, like some of had suggested. Vanna, your giveaway is so generous. Don't forget to put my name into the hat. laurie

This is such a lovely giveaway- thank you for hosting! And for sharing that book. I think your new piece would look great as a stand for a large victorian birdcage or a collection of several bird cages. Of course, if I found this treasure, I would have to make it into a cat bed though. A cat bed with a velvet blue cushion I think. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it!

So I'm sitting here pregnant, on bedrest, googling my little heart out...trying to figure out what in God's name that is!
I finally reached the end of the internet and I got nuthin'! Your thingy does not exist in any other realm. I say make it into the fanciest litter box the world has ever seen.
I do, however, have a lovely photo of a canopy over a bed with slanty walls!

It looks like the base of some sort of cabinet maybe? I would paint it a soft shade of grey and then turn it into a doggie bed! Have fun with it.

I would love it painted *gasp* and would use it in a kitchen, maybe on a large island cook top to hold olive oil, plates, etc.

Hi Vanna, I was THRILLED to see you blogging again. You have truly been missed. With my line of work, I could see that being a base for a gorgeous silk tree or floor plant to sit on. It is lovely, as are all the pictures you have shared today. Oh more drools and *winks* ahead! :) Welcome back and what a fabulous giveaway!

Hi Vanna Dear, Sorry I haven't gotten here sooner... I haven't been on the internet for awhile. My life is somewhat upside down for the moment.

Hey check out the headboard... that is lovely and so are the other bedrooms scenes. Of course anything with lace is right up my alley and anything with ornate or carving curves on furniture is another weakness of mine.

Wow, I love the piece that you had bought.... My gosh girl there are so many things you can do with that. I would have to play with it for awhile to decide what I really would do with it. First of all I would paint it white, then maybe put one of those large CLOCHES inside of it... Or use as a tray of interesting vignettes, I don't know the possibilities are endless. But I do know It wouldn't be good for a doggie or cat bed due to the sides of it.... I don't think that would be very comfy.

Yes I would be interested in your giveaway and you already know I'm a follower. By the way I love your new look on your blog..... nothing like seeing exquisite chandeliers and fabulous stairs!!

Sending Warm Hugs*

I'm thinking it is the base to a cabinet or display case of some sorts. But it would make a great pet bed! I'd paint it white. . . .

Have a good rest of the week-end!

I will continue to ponder this... How exciting!!!
